Have you heard about the lovely town of Penne in the stunning region of Abruzzo? Not penne pasta, but the town? 😉

If not, it’s a hot place to consider at the moment, and rightly so.

Penne is joining the growing list of Italian towns offering homes for just €1.

🏡 What’s the deal?

No deposit required — Unlike many €1 home programs, Penne is skipping the usual €5,000 security fee.
You just need to commit to renovating the home within 3 years.
Renovation costs usually start around €20,000–€50,000+, depending on the size and condition. (Still less expensive than a full renovation in the United States!)

They are looking to anyone willing to invest the necessary time and money into restoring properties that need some TLC. Similarly to other locations in Italy that have offered €1 homes previously, they are hoping to bring back life to the town after the population has declined over the years.

“There are potentially over 40 empty buildings in town looking for new owners, and they’re all located in the historical center which has been declining since families started emigrating decades ago,” says Penne’s mayor Gilberto Petrucci. According to CNN Travel, 7,200 people have already reached out to inquire since March 18th.

“It just hurts me so much to see these houses just lying there abandoned. It’s a like a wound,” he added.

And the great news? Buyers will be offered a helping hand when it comes to the renovations, courtesy of a "team of architects and experts" who are available to help with every element of the process, from sourcing contractors, to figuring out renderings, to overseeing the actually building work.
